IS IT WORTHY TO CHANGE YOUR MOBILE PHONE'S KERNEL?
If you don't know what is a kernel, it is a bridge between hardware and software. Every electronic device has a kernel which is provided by the device manufacturer.
The left side of the bridge is the software and the right side of the bridge is the hardware. The bridge which connects the two is the kernel. The software demands required hardware partition inorder to function properly and the kernel provides it.
Whenever google releases a new android version, it releases its code as an open source to the manufacturers and the manufacturers analyse the code and code the kernel in inorder to support their device in the best possible way without sacrificing performance and battery life.
If you still don't get what is a kernel, refer the image below.
Eg: If you wanna control the volume, the software doesn't control it directly. It sends commands to kernel and the kernel controls the speaker volume.
How to choose a kernel? :
Infact, there are a lot of cutsom kernels available across the web.
Some have better functionalities than the kernel provided by your device manufacturer. And why not?, you can actually code your own kernel. But that is not so easy. A normal kernel contains about 10 million lines of code in which most of them are drivers. If you sideload your own kernel or a kernel which is not suited for your phone, there are chances you might brick your phone. So, do it at your own risk.
Why to change your kernel :
1) You are a guy who cares for performance more than battery life.
2)You are a guy who cares for battery life more than performance
(Both kind of kernels are available based on your needs. Some kernels have both the performance and battery life/saver mode. You just have to download an app to toggle from one mode to another. Eg: extreme kernel)
3)You are a guy who uses a low-end device and want to enhance the performance by overclocking your cpu.
4) To enable USB fast charge (USB 3.0)
5)To set how busy your cpu must be inorder to activate additional cores inorder to save battery.
6)A custom kernel can provide improvements, extra features, specialization, and extreme configurability.
7)By changing the kernel and upgrading the OS of your outdated device, you can give it a new life.
( lineageOS is one of the best custom rom supporting vast majority of devices)
Why not to change your kernel:
1)You must unlock the bootloader in your device which is gonna expose your phone to a lot of vulnerabilities.
2)Unlocking bootloader is a technical thing which not everyone can do.
3)If you choose a kernel which isn't supported for your device, chances are you might brick your phone permanently.
IF YOU STILL WANNA DO IT WITHOUT HARMING YOUR PHONE, FIND A TECHNICIAN WHO KNOWS WELL ABOUT THESE STUFFS.
CHANGING THE KERNEL AND THE OS OF AN OUT DATED DEVICE WILL BE WORTHY AFTERALL.
